Biomedical Applications of smart materials include implants and stents, such as bone plates and marrow needles, surgical and dental instruments, devices, and fixtures, such as orthodontic fixtures and biopsy forceps and devices and instruments for medical checkups, such as ultrasonic devices. Iron oxide nanoparticles are the most researched and commonly used materials for biomedical applications. Its popularity is due to unique chemical, biological and magnetic properties such as chemical stability, non-toxicity, biocompatibility, high saturation magnetisation and high magnetic susceptibility.
