Biography

Dr. Lei Yan is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the College of Life Science and Biotechnology, affiliated to Heilongjiang Bayi Agricultural University (HBAU), China. He acquired his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Lanzhou University, China in June 2010. Dr. Yan has over 10 years of research experience in the field of Microbiology, Microecology, Biotechnology and Nanobiotechnology. He is the Topic editor for Frontier in Microbiology, Guest editor for Journal of Spectroscopy. He has so far published more that 30 research articles in internationally peer reviewed journals. He is serving as a reviewer for many reputed journals such as Bioresource Technology, Applied and Environmental Microbiology, Journal of Bacteriology, Journal of Applied Microbiology, Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, Scientific Reports, Nano Research, Journal of Microbial & Biochemical Technology, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Letters in Applied Microbiology, FEMS Microbiology Letters, Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, Materials Science and Engineering C, Current Microbiology and 3 Biotech.

Research Interest

His study focus on ecophysiology of geo-microbes including diversity and phylogenetic analysis of IOB (Iron-oxidizing bacteria), SOB (Sulfur-oxidizing bacteria) and MTB (Magnetotactic bacteria) in special habitats, relationships between microbial diversity, environmental characteristics, and ecosystem processes. Attention is also focused on biomineralization and biogeomagnetism, in biomineralization, the goal is to understand the molecular mechanisms of microbial metal uptake, transport, and formation of magnetite and iron sulfides. In biogeomagnetism, study focus on the magnetic property of MTB and the magnetic techniques for identifying iron biominerals in sediments. Additionally, he also is interested in bioleaching and bioremoval using IOB and SOB.
