Gigantism

Abnormal growth in children that is caused due to production of excess growth hormone is referred to as Gigantism. If this is diagnosed at early stages of childhood so that treatment can be given to stop or slow down the growth larger than the normal. Almost all the times the cause for gigantism is pituitary gland, which is responsible for production of several hormones that controls many functions in the body. Other causes may include McCune-Albright syndrome, Carney complex, neurofibromatosis etc. If blood tests confirm gigantism in early childhood then treatments for gigantism aim to stop or slow down the production of growth hormones.
